[sigh] Sims 3 is great. When it isn't crashing. Fuck you EA.
I spent hours landscaping and building and decorating a house/lot for one of my Sims, on the weekend. And I had just moved her into it, and was saving, and the game crashed. The save game for that whole town has just disappeared.
Fortunately I save obsessively when creating Sims, so I can make her again. But I've lost that house and I was really happy with it, dammit. I wonder if it's kept the custom pattern settings I used for a lot of the surfaces and objects in it? I can't be bothered finding out at the moment. I'm going to play Diablo II. |

| Thanksgiving in London! |
[November 23rd, 2009 | 10:27 am] |
| [ | Feeling |
| | excited | ] | Hi All!
Anyone know of any American shops around London where I could buy some classic American Thanksgiving ingredients/stuff?
Also, I may end up being too lazy to cook, so if anyone could recommend a great restaurant serving a Thanksgiving meal that'd be great too!
Thanks and Happy early Turkey Day!!!!

| Lucky Strikes Factory |
[November 23rd, 2009 | 2:59 am] |
A long time ago I used to explore old abandoned houses. I eventually found out about the Lucky Strikes Factory in Richmond, VA and was able to make my way in.
The factory has now been renovated into luxury condos. It used to be full of asbestos and was a fairly creepy place to be in.
This photo set is from November 25, 2005. I was recently going through an old external hard drive and stumbled across them and thought I would share.

| Monday Zen: Knights of Cydonia A Capella |
[November 22nd, 2009 | 11:27 pm] |
I awoke with a line in my head: "Ain't had a good stampede in a while," and an image of a certain character starting a stampede for fun. I wrote it to this song (the original, not the a capella you see above). It turned out well, and I even had Ana read the scene while listening to the song. Yeah. Geekery ensues.
In related news, why does the dwarven steel merchant in Dragon Age sound like John Wayne? I keep imagining he'll say, "Ok Pilgrim, we've got the finest dwarven steel you'll see 'round these parts."
Yee-haw? |

| Indicators of Musical Talent in a Natal Chart |
[November 23rd, 2009 | 8:13 am] |
What are the indicators of musical talent in a natal chart? I want to pick up an instrument next year. The will is there, but I am not sure if I even should give it a try. I know that I will only know after trying it actually, but I am curious what indicators are there in a natal chart whether someone has musical talent. The free natal chart report said that Trine Sun favors musicians?! It also reads with Venus in I that I am drawn towards music.

| Ink on Skin - tiny art necklaces |
[November 23rd, 2009 | 12:40 pm] |

INK ON SKIN
Tiny artworks hand-drawn on clear acrylic pendants (3mm thick) using permanent ink, sealed with acrylic varnish.
Suspended on a little black chain (13.5 inches), worn very short so that the pendant hangs just below the collarbones, looking like a dainty tattoo.

[November 22nd, 2009 | 11:34 pm] |
Ugh. My roommate and I have commented to each other off and on since her moving in (on Halloween) of a smell wafting through the kitchen that I can only compare to old, stale cigarette smoke. I know what fresh cigarette smoke smells like, and am not passionately adverse to it (but neither do I love it), but this smells old and yucky and nauseating.
The smell is worst, strangely enough, beneath the sinks of our kitchen and bathroom (which adjoin each other). Tonight the smell was positively foul-- I used Oust and Febreze and even pondered burning some rosemary stems to help the smell go away.
Have any of you ever dealt with something like this? Is the culprit likely to be our downstairs neighbor (a reclusive hipster DJ who I've never spoken to)? Is the smell coming up through the pipes? Under what circumstances should I go downstairs to talk to the guy myself? For now, we plan on dealing with it by buying some nice potpourri and some strong scented candles... but the situation still irks me. |

| Semi Abandoned |
[November 22nd, 2009 | 11:19 pm] |
Although this house is lived in, the third floor has been abandoned for years.
The man in this photo is blind. He's my neighbor and is about to move from this house that he has lived in since 1958. He knows every inch by touch and I often forget that he can't see, as he moves about without difficulty. He's semi-famous for doing caning work on antique chairs...all by touch....weaving a beautiful pattern.

He and his family told me the house has spirits and they plan to have a seance before he moves out. Naturally, I asked to be invited.

The original shutters from the 1890s still hang on the third floor window. The house will most likely be boarded up and then torn down by the university that bought it.
